Wedding planning does not have to be a stressful and frustrating event. With careful planning you can allow yourself the proper amount of time to make educated decisions, secure quality services and really enjoy the process. Planning for a large formal wedding should begin at least 6-12 months in advance.

Six to Twelve Months
Agree on Budget Select music for ceremony
Decide who will pay for what Select DJ for reception
Select a Date and Time Select Photographer or Videographer

Choose Ceremony Location Select your florist
Choose colors Select Bridal registry

Check requirements for marriage license Get or renew passports if necessary
Order invitations, stationary, wedding programs Start shopping for men’s attire
Shop for trousseau Select baker and cake
Order wedding favors Set appointment for physical exams
Order flowers Find a place to live
Select gift choices at registry Shop for home furnishings
Select readings for ceremony Shop for wedding bands

Two Months
Have engagement portraits taken Select attendants' gifts
Place engagement announcement in the paper Experiment with hairstyles
Mail out invitations and/or announcements Arrange and plan rehearsal dinner
Set date with fiancé to get wedding license Reserve rental items for ceremony
Finalize decisions on men’s attire Order wedding and groom’s cake
Make appointment for attendants clothing fittings

One Month
Final wedding dress fitting Make rehearsal dinner reservations
Final fitting for wedding attendants Arrange lodging for out of town guests
Have attendants' parties Confirm honeymoon trip reservations
Make sure your accessories are in order Choose hairdresser and book appointment
Purchase gifts for groom and attendants Order wedding and groom’s cake

Two Weeks
Confirm rehearsal time and date with wedding party Book appointments with manicurist
Review the seating plans for reception Finalize arrangements with DJ
Make a record of wedding gifts as they arrive Finalize music for first dance, parents, etc.
Pick up wedding rings, and make sure they fit Change name and address on all accounts
Confirm that all wedding attire for all parties is in order Finalize trousseau shopping

One Week
Final consultation with all vendors
Tally final guest count, give to caterers
Make sure marriage license is in order
Begin to pack for honeymoon, purchase travelers checks
Have wedding ceremony rehearsal and dinner
Instruct wedding parties on their duties of the ceremony
Confirm out of town guests have sleeping accommodations
